1887. ABOUT, Edmond, 1826-1885. LES MARIAGES DE PARIS. (STIKEMAN binding). Paris: A. Lahure pour Les Amis des Livres, 1887. 8vo. [vi]565. With frontispiece and 52 plates in two states, and numerous vignettes in the text, all drawn by Piguet and engraved on wood by Huyot. Number 6 of 100 copies for subscribers on china paper, out of an edition of 115. This one was for Monsieur Henri Beraldi, well-known bibliophile, publisher, president of the Societe des Amis des Livres. and author of books on French printmakers of the 19th century, with his name printed under the number. Six stories by a witty commentator on the mores of his time. (Carteret 1946: IV, p.41.) Dark blue crushed morocco with gilt lettering and five raised bands to spine. Dentelles intricately gilt, with the label "Stikeman & Co." Marbled end papers; original printed wrappers bound-in. T.e.g. Lovely condition, but for slight wear to the surface of the lower board, and barely visible split to paper of inner front hinge.
