Description:
Nattali and Bond. London. No Date.,Circa 1850. THREE VOLUMES. Tall 8vo (10.2 x 6.6 inches). Text and plates taken from the Ninth edition. Complete set of this famous trilogy, with 80 fine hand-coloured, full page, aquatint plates, the colouring still strong and bright, by Thomas Rowlandson. Some minor spots of foxing to a few leaves in each volume but generally clean and bright copies in the scarce original publisher's brown cloth bindings, with gilt lettering and decoration on spines. Decorative blind stamped panels on boards. Original yellow coated endpapers. Previous owners bookplates to front paste downe endpapers. Some rubbing to top and tail of spines and fore-edges, and a couple of the hinges with neatly repaired splits (about 1.5 inches) but generally these are very good examples. Slight uniform fading to spines but overall a very attractive set of this classic work with Rowlandson's humourous plates. Uncommon in the publishers original decorative cloth bindings.:

Hand-embroidered items: rain, flowers and grass. Machine and hand-stitched. Lise Melhorn-Boe: "Hazel Hall's poem 'Two Sewing' animates this flag book. The lovely text refers to the wind as an embroiderer and the rain as needles, so Hedi Kyle's flag book seemed like an excellent structure to give the feeling of a landscape opening out."

Description:
1879 Jules Verne 1st/1st Tribulations of Chinaman + Begum's Fortune 2in1 HetzelJules Verne's adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Known mostly for his works of science fiction, 'Voyages Extraordinaires' was Verne's largest collection of fantasy novels and stories. "Tribulations of a Chinaman in China", first published in 1879, discusses, in a satirical view, the British trading opium in China and is filled with illustrations depicting adventures, shipwrecks, and sea battles.
In addition to 'Tribulations', this volume is bound along with a first edition of "Les Cinq Cents Millions de la Begum", or 'The Begum's Fortune' – Verne's dystopian and pessimistic portrayal of developmental sciences.
Note on dating: like many other Verne first editions, the title page included was issued in each edition, including later printings. This particular edition of Verne's was published in 1879 – note the ads at the end advertising for the releases in the 1880… Read More

Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250.
