About This Item
New York, New York, U.S.A.: Grosset and Dunlap, 1935. Second Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/G+. Book #1 (of 6) in the author's second bestselling series of children's books from the early 20th-century, designed as "happy books for happy girls,'' written especially for "her majesty the little American girl." These featured a plucky 12-year girl, Marjorie Maynard, who is "up to mischief, but full of goodness & sincerity,'' as she embarks on a new adventure in each book. Here, she spends a summer with her grandmother & uncle. Orig. published in 1907, this is a later printing with a renewed 1935 copyright, now with decorative endpapers in the second state full color DJ depicting Marjorie standing by a fence post. Bound in bright orange blue cloth with inset center image to front & black lettering to front & spine, this hardcover 8vo has 293 pages + a glossy frontispiece (author unattributed). Condition is Near Fine: clean & bright with very mild dust dulling to outside page edges. Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Pages creamy white with mild, age-appropriate tanning to edges; old gift inscription dated 1942 to ffep, else unmarked. The unclipped DJ is Good+: bright & colorful, but sealed around the edges by former owner with clear tape.
