[4], vii-xvi, [2], 3-368; [6], 1-365, [2] (pages of publisher's advertisements), [3] pp. Blue cloth with gold lettering on the front boards and spines; top edges gilt. Title pages printed in red and black. Volume one illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Twain in bed and with a facsimile of Twain's handwriting; volume two illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Twain. With an introduction by Albert Bigelow Paine, Twain's literary executor. BAL 3537. State A. Excerpts from Twain's autobiography, gathered, edited, and published by Bigelow Paine. Mark Twain's full autobiography would not be published until one hundred years after his death, as was the stipulation in his will. A handsome set. The books are Near Fine with volume two showing an occasional spot of offsetting to its leaves; jackets are Very Good with a few traces of chipping and mild fading.
