Edinburgh: Printed by J. Ballantyne and Co. for Archibald Constable and Company, 1808. 8vo, pp. [x], 377, [1], cxxviii. Contemporary straight-grained red morocco, boards bordered with a triple gilt rule, spine divided by triple gilt rule, lettered direct in gilt, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. Somewhat foxed. Binding a little rubbed and marked. Ink gift inscription to front flyleaf. A handsome copy of the fourth edition of Scott’s historical romance told in verse. Though it bears the same year as the first, this fourth edition appeared on 7th of January 1809: over 10,000 copies were printed within a year of its first appearance in February of 1808 (per numbers given by Todd & Bowden). Todd & Bowden 28Af.

Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association.
