The first edition. In the publisher's cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. This work was written by the British Nobel Prize winning author Doris Lessing and is the first novel in her five volume, semi-autobiographical series, 'The Children of Violence'. The series follows the life of Martha Quest who starts the series at fifteen years old and lives in poverty on a African farm with her parents. In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent with very minimal fading to the spine and to the head of the rear board, slight shelf wear and light offsetting and spotting to the endpapers. The wrap is generally smart with tape re-enforcements to the head and tail, a closed tear to the head of the spine, slight marks, chips to the head of the spine and scattered spotting to the fly leaves and verso. Internally firmly bound with generally bright pages with occasional light spotting. Near Fine
