About This Item
Dublin: J O Bonsal, 1824. First edition. Disbound. Near Fine. 7.5" by 4.5". None. A very scarce pamphlet which looks at Martin Luther's relationship with the Devil, and considers the possibility that the Devil influenced Luther to trigger the Religious Reformation. A very scarce pamphlet, published in Dublin in 1824. There are only three copies held institutionally which are in Irish libraries. Luther discusses in his own writings that he battled with the Devil and the most famous story regards how he once threw an inkwell at the Devil. Disbound, as called for. This Catholic work cites Luther's own works found at the College of Dublin, tom 7 p.228 which contains 'Luther's Conversation with the Devil' and from this point poses the question that maybe the Reformation was therefore the doing of the Devil. An extremely scarce work. Disbound, as called for. Externally, very smart. A few light marks to the front and rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with just the odd spot.
