About This Item

Mary Pickford, "The Pickford Corporation, Bill of Sale" Document Signed, 1926.  Document signed by Mary Pickford Fairbanks, her sister, Charlotte Smith and others for sale of the  "Pickford Corporation," 11 pages plus cover, April 3, 1926 (docketed over the original typed date). This Bill of Sale transfers, for the total sum of $1.00, all assets owned individually and as co-partners by Mary Pickford Fairbanks and Charlotte Smith  of the Mary Pickford Company, 7200 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood to The Pickford Corporation, registered at 7 W. 10 St., Wilmington, Delaware. Assets specified as "negatives, positive copies, plates...all of the literary compositions and scenarios from which the following motion picture photoplays were produced... now existing between Mary Pickford and the United Artists Corporation..." A number of films are listed, including those starring Mary Pickford as well as some starring her brother Jack Pickford and sister Lottie (Charlotte) Pickford.

Two additional documents show assets to be included in the transfer of the sale from Mary Pickford Company to The Pickford Corporation: A Feb. 10, 1925 letter from United Artists to Pickford's lawyer, Dennis F. O'Brien listing European productions with balances due and note of checks enclosed as of December 27, 1924; and a List of Net Income from Paramount Artcraft Pictures for the week ending June 30, 1923 for US, Canadian and Foreign films. Pickford, known as "America's Sweetheart," created United Artists production studio with Charlie Chaplin, D. W. Griffith and Douglas Fairbanks in 1919. She also founded the Mary Pickford Company in the same year to produce the films distributed by United Artists.  . Autograph
