The first UK edition of this work, being published first in the US in 1987 under the title 'Swann: A Mystery'. 'Mary Swann' is a novel about a Canadian poet, Mary Swann, and looks at the effects she had on the lives of four people; a literary critics, a biography, a librarian, and an editor. The novel is inspired by the murder of the Canadian poet Pat Lowther, who died in 1975. Written by Carol Shields, best known for her novel 'The Stone Diaries', which won the Pulitzer Prize. She is also known for her poetry and plays. Her other novels include 'The Republic of Love', 'Larry's Party', and 'Unless'. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart.
