Scientific American, 1970s. Very Good. First Edition, square 16mo, 6.5 x 6.5 inches, 8-page booklet with math games on 11 cardstock leaves, housed in folding die-cut (circle, square, triangle) paper chemise. Presumably the work of longtime SA contributor, Martin Gardner, circa 1970s, to "add some spots of color and fun to your holiday season. The two spinning illusions may seem at first to be non-mathematical." This kit was likely issued to subscribers as a promotion. Game 1: "65 tiny squares are to be cut out for use in some of the games," with some ESP elements, even though the grid is 8 x 8 (64 squares). Some of the squares have been cut out, and 1 square is absent. Other games: Nine Men's Morris, Hex, The 16 Soldiers, Daisy Game, Pop-Up Dodecahedron, Tangrams, Subjective Color Disk, Concentric Circles, and The Jungle Game. The magazine began in the 19th century, and has run to date. Very Good Plus overall, with moderate foxing, and light creasing to the chemise, cardstock leaves crisp and flat. Scarce.
