Volume légèrement gauchis, dos un peu éclairci, chasses intégralement fendues, gardes bleues d'origine légèrement éclaircies en marge comme habituellement. Mathias Sandorf est dédié de manière posthume à Alexandre Dumas. Jules Verne rend hommage en effet dans ce roman à l'auteur du Comte de Monte-Cristo (""Dans cet ouvrage, j'ai essayé de faire de Matthias Sandorf le Monte-Cristo des Voyages extraordinaires."") ; Sandorf a été comme lui emprisonné et trahi et ses aventures retraceront sa vengeance.
