Me and My Big Mouth

by Larry Adler with Philip Judge

Condition: New

London, UK: Blake Publishing. New. 1994. Mass Market Paperback. 1857820878 . Unread. 8 pages of black & white photos. Renowned jazz harmonica player, Larry Adler, tells the highly entertaining story of his life rubbing shoulders with Al Capone, Ingrid Bergman, Jack Benny and Frank Sinatra; his exile from the U.S. in the 1950's by Communist witch-hunts; and his subsequent vindication in England performing with Sting, Elton John and Elvis Costello. Larry Adler was born in Baltimore on 10th February, 1914. A self-taught musician, he won the Maryland Harmonica Championship at the age of 13 and began his show business career the following year. He appeared in Clowns in Clover (1928), Flying Colors (1934) and Tune Inn (1937) and toured the USA, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In the 1940s Adler played as a soloist with some of the world's leading symphony orchestras. In the 50's Adler was branded a Communist and after refusing to appear before the House of Un-American Activities Committee he moved to England where he wrote the music for films such as Genevieve (1953), The Hook (1963), King and Country (1964) and A High Wind in Jamaica (1965). Largely forgotten during the 70's, he came out of retirement to appear with such musicians as Sting, Elton John and Elvis Costello. This is his autobiography. ; 226 pages .
