About This Item
Fredericton, N. B.: New Brunswick Medical Society, 1974 Book. Illus. by Photos. Very Good. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Original red cloth on boards with gilt lettering. The first known volume on the subject. Several page corners turned down. Early medical challenges were scurvy, which aboriginals treated with a potion brewed from ground hemlock or white spruce. The Acadians fared little better in spite of their varied diet of home-grown vegetables, meat, and dairy products. A few surgeons and physicians became established in connection with the arrival of the Loyalists. Leprosy and cholera spread. The first hospitals were formed, usually following various epidemics. Heavy book may require extra postage..
