About This Item
France. Fine. 1984. Limited/Numbered Edition. Hardcover. The tiniest crease to the creature's tiny toe on one leaf.; A miniature, artist's book, written and designed by French artist Noël Marsault. In polychrome illustrated, thin pasteboards die cut in the shape of a whimsical, imaginary creature lifting one back leg, presumably to urinate. Marsault's drawings and prints are varied, and a somewhat-similar creature has appeared in one of his drawings. The text is in French, and the page design incorporates Marsault's typical chaotic layout of varying point sizes in the same line, lines chaotically placed on the page, and ambiguity as to the structure of a given sentence. Here is the opening sentence, printed in 3 consecutive pages: "Je deviens empire et songes à // la spirale à ressort la gorge de // dénouée dans celuiqui attend." This is copy 27 of an unstated edition, but believed to be limited to 30. Unpaginated, but 17 pages including an endpaper and limitation page. The text is in an unstated serif font and printed in multiple colors on delicately thin paper. The book is 3" high x 3 1/2" wide and the covers are hinged at the back of the creature's hind leg. This tiny, whimsical book is physically delicate and fragile. Quite scarce, with no copies found in OCLC. This is clean and Fine in every way.; Color Illustrations; 64mo 3" - 4½" tall; 17 pages .
