About This Item
Plattsburgh, N.Y.: O. R. Cook, 1834. First edition, 12mo, pp. 252; full blue cloth; cloth rubbed and faded to tan, rebacked in reverse calf with manuscript label on spine, lacking front free endpaper, foxed; ownership label of banker and socialite Amos Tuck French on upper pastedown, good. A laudatory account of Allen's life. In the preface he criticizes Dwight's Travels in New-England for "materially misrepresent[ing] the moral principles, and, in fact, the general character of Col. Allen" and waves away the controversy surrounding Allen's part in Canada's attempt to absorb Vermont into the Commonwealth. American Imprints 25812; Howes M-772.
