London: Hurst and Blackett, 1866. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Two volumes. Full calf binding with gilt along edges and on spine. Five raised bands. Front board of Volume 1 is detached and top of spine has short tears. Binding is firm. Front board of Volume 2 is loosening but the binding is tight. Both volumes are clean and unfoxed, with marbled endpapers and all edges marbled. Frontispiece engraving of Combermere in Volume I and Stapleton Cotton (Viscount Combermere) as a young man in Volume 2. Tissue guards intact. Title page in each volume has small engraving. Heraldic bookplate affixed to front pastedown page of both volumes (Deo Adjuvante, with the name James Jones). Laid in is a new color postcard of Combermere. A handsome set, with problem front boards. 8vo. 403 pp. Vol. 1; 434 pp. Vol. 2. From the estate of Donald Skinner, Canadian military collector extraordinaire.
