Boston: L.C. Page. VG+ books. Occassional ep foxing spots, no other internal flaws. 1901 & 1902. Hardcover. VG+ books. TEG. Lovely set. Gilt decorated blue cloth. Bright & tight. NEAR FINE inside. Extrems lightly scuffed. 23cm high. . A very nice set. The first series, of 15 vols, with 1901 tp dates, second series, also of 15 vols, dated 1902. 1908 DNB states: "... chiefly remembered by a series of entertaining memoirs, in which he [Jesse] strung together historical anecdotes of the later dynasties of British monarches." Jesse died in 1874. Overall condition quite nice. FLAWS: (1) Tips are scuffed and a few are lightly bumped. Spine ends scuffed with 1/8" max closed tears EXCEPT: "Stuart " vol 5 spine top with 1/4" tears. (2) "Selwyn" vol 3 spine with quarter size rubbed spot. (3) City of London vol 2 back cover with small area of light brown stain. It obviously was a "show" as set most leaf fore edges were never cut open. Gilt top edges, spine & cover gilt bright as new. Cover designer's monogram "AS" on lower spines. Deckled fore & bottom edges with not even a hint of dust staining or foxing. Tight as new binding. Hinges perfect. Each vol with 5 plates & a frontis, all with tissue guards. First series titles: Stuarts Court, W&M court, Pretenders & City of London memorials. Second: Richard III, George III, Selwyn & City of London celebrities. .
