About This Item
WAUGH, Sylvia. The Mennyms. NY: Greenwillow [1994]. 8vo, 213pp. Navy quarter-cloth stamped in silver with blue boards decoratively stamped in blind. Blue endpapers. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. With a bookplate signed by the author, Sylvia Waugh, laid-in.
First US edition. From the outside, 5 Brocklehurst Grove looks like an ordinary English house - the windows are always clean, and the garden well tended. But the family inside – the Mennyms – are quite extraordinary! They are a family of life-size, living rag dolls, pretending to be human. When a letter arrives announcing that the own of the house is coming from Australia for a visit, the Mennyms fear their secret, peaceful existence is threatened! What are they to do? The first of the five books in this series.
