About This Item

London: Hamish Hamilton, 1978 . First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A smart, first edition of this fantasy work of fiction on Merlin, by Robert Nye. First edition, in the publisher's original red cloth binding, with the original dust wrapper. Written by author and poet Robert Nye, who is best known for his novel 'Falstaff' as well as various collections of poetry. In this novel, Rye takes a completely new approach to Merlin, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, as he explores the dark unconscious side of the Arthurian myth. Rye has drawn upon the earliest depictions of Merlin, as a force which is neither good nor evil, but is the author of good and evil in others. In the publisher's original red cloth binding, with the original dust wrapper, which has been price-clipped. Externally, lovely, with very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and a touch of fading to the extremities. Dust wrapper is price-clipped but otherwise excellent, with minor shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Fine
