About This Item
New York: Books of Wonder, 1991. As new copy in as new dust jacket. First edition, first printing THUS of this new issue. This is a beautiful most desirable copy in like dust jacket published by Books of Wonder in 1991. It is a FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING of this edition. The Reilly & Lee edition of Merry Go Round in Oz was published in 1963 and constitutes the last (the 40th book) Oz book in the classical Oz canon of wizardology. What makes this excellent Oz book (and it is an excellent story, on par---or in some cases much better, with any of the previous 39 Oz books---) is that the original illustator, Dick Martin, produced a new wraparound jacket design (copyright in 1989) just for this particular edition. Martin's interior illustrations for the 1991 book are the same as in the 1963 edition. The fact that he had a direct hand in the production of this printing, is unique among the Oz books for an illustrator of a previous first edition Oz book. In my estimation, as an artist, the jacket design is better than the 1963 edition. The book cloth on the book offered here is dark emerald green (it was a lighter on the subsequent editions). The spine is stamped in gold. This book also retains the original Dick Martin yellow endpaper design as in the first 1963 edition. Note: The 1963 edition of Merry Go Round in jacket has always been rather scarce (in fact, it even carried some "mystique" with it) and pricey for about the last 20 years or so in our experience. Illustrated by dick Martin. 1st Ed. Thus. Binding is cloth.. Illus. by Dick Martin. 8vo. Hard Cover. 1st Ed Thus.. Cloth. As New/As New.
