London: George Allen & Unwin LTD, 1935. Karel Capek is famed for his first use of the word "robot," and his iconic novel "War with the Newts." He was nominated for the Nobel prize seven times. This is the second volume in his "Noetic Trilogy" (the others are "Hordubal" and "An Ordinary Life"). First published in Prague in 1934; this is a Very Good copy of the First English Edition, translated by M. & R. Weatherall. An uncommon to scarce title, certainly the hardest to find within the Capek canon. This is a Very Good copy of the First English Edition. Gray cloth binding with fluorescent orange titling on the spine and front cover. Clean text; 256 pages, very bright and supple. Previous-owner bookplate on the front paste-down. Mildly bumped and with wear around the margins. Lacking a dustwrapper; in an archival plastic protector. . First UK Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
