About This Item

UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.FINE/FINE.No owner inscrptn and no price-clip to dw/dj.Bright,crisp,clean,glossy laminated, colour pictorial artwork by Paul Sample, illustrated upper panel of dw/dj with black, red, grey(?) lettering; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - one small closed tear/nick to rear, top backstrip's gutter's edge of dw/dj - no other tears present.Top+fore-edges slightly aged/toned but generally clean - fore-edges with a couple of small marks/smudges; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - near pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - appears unread.Bright,clean,sharp-cornered,publisher's original, plain dark blue cloth boards with bright, crisp, stamped silver gilt letters to spine/backstrip and slight lean to book and immaculate pale blue endpapers.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,1-244pp [paginated] includes 29 chapters, plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages, a dedication, last page unpaginated and 4pp blanks at rear.See also my book ID rja512915 and rja677917 for other examples of this same title. Timothy Bright doesn't exactly live up to his name.Brought up to regard copious flows of money as his birthright,he can't understand why the funds have been cut off,nor why friends he recruited as Lloyds' Names no longer want to talk to him. When gambling fails,Timothy turns to embezzlement, but it's the lesser offence of helping himself to some strangely aromatic tobacco that propels him up the motorway and into bed with the Chief Constable's wife. The Chief Constable has just survived charges of bribery and perjury, and is not too concerned that his efforts to dispose of Timothy involve false imprisonment, breaking and entering, and a spot of GBH.It is only when the Chief tries to frame his old adversary, the upright Miss Midden, that things begin to go seriously wrong as his underhand ploy opens up the way to spectacular mayhem.
