Very Good+ with typical rubbing along spine, small tear near foot to front wrap along fold, tiny gouge to front wrap near author's name, top corner of text bumped. Publisher's blue stamp on front free endpaper, former owners' bookplate on verso with offsetting. An attractive copy in an uncommon, fragile issue of the hardboiled classic. It inspired an Academy Award-winning film in 1945.
