New York: Simon and Schuster, 1926. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/very good. First edition of A Million and One Nights: A History of the Motion Picture by Terry Ramsaye, two volumes with scarce dust jackets.. Octavo, [2 volumes], lxx, [2], 400pp; 401-868pp. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt on spines with decorative gilt image on front covers. Date on title and copyright pages is the same with no additional printings mentioned. Top edges gilt, untrimmed fore edges. Both volumes have frontispiece portraits with tissue covers and all illustrative plates are present. Bindings are solid, and the text of both volumes is clean, except for a couple minor finger marks. Sunning to spines and along top edge of covers, toning to endpapers and fore edge. Corners of Volume II bumped. Spine ends of both volumes rubbed with shelf wear along bottom edge of volumes. Volume I has three leaves with closed tears and Volume II has two. In publisher's dust jackets which were perpendicularly folded, one fold along the spine and the other in the center across the panels. Extremely rare to find this set in its original dust jackets. Volume I has several closed tears along top/bottom edges and center of spine, limited archival tissue repairs to verso, some wear to spine. Volume II has two closed tears along bottom edge, large scratch on back panel, light wear to spine ends. An attractive example of this classic work on the early history of the motion picture industry.
