New York: Doubleday, Doran and Company, 1930. [Modern literature] PRESENTATION COPY. Octavo (21 x 14cm), pp.[8] 319 [1]. INSCRIBED by the author to half-title; 'To John Sebastian Booth | From the Floats known | in Mirthful Haven as | "Pelfers" | June, 1935.' Gifted to John Booth on behalf of Tarkington's literary assistant Elizabeth Trotter Jr. Publisher's blue cloth with bird motif and titles blocked in white to upper board and spine. Blue, decorative endpapers matching bird motif on cover. Leaves lightly toned. Gutter is visible in a few places. Ownership inscription in black ink to flyleaf, leaving a small mark to paste-down. Spotting and toning to edges, mostly top. Toning to spine. With rubbing to board extremities and some fraying to headcap. Very good. Booth Tarkington is one of few novelists to win the Pulitzer Prize more than once. He contributed heavily to the Golden Age of Indiana Literature, a cultural boom in the early 20th century wherein most of North America's best art all seemed to stem from Indiana.
