About This Item
Mist Over Pendle by Robert Neill (Hutchinson & Co. Ltd, [fifth] reprint 1953).
Originally published in 1951 and the author's first and probably most known and read novel, a tale of witches and romance in seventeenth century Lancashire.
Dustwrapper art by Sax.
Hardback – publisher's brown cloth with gilt title to spine, in dustwrapper. 328pp, decorative endpapers. Size: 8 x 5.75 inches approx. (204mm x 142mm).
Dustwrapper very worn, creased and rubbed; short tears with small loss; somewhat dusty and grubby. Light bruising and rubbing to spine ends; boards lightly knocked to corners; gilt dulled to tail of spine; cloth a little marked in places but generally clean. A previous owner's name in ink neatly written to verso front free endpaper; age-tanned, dustiness and occasional mark but pages generally clean throughout; upper corner missing to page 267/8; last page showing creasing to gutter (where glued to rear endpaper); dusty and marked to edges of page-block.
Overall, showing wear from having been handled and read but otherwise remaining a reasonably nice copy – dustwrapper, albeit worn, presenting well in a paper-backed cellophane sleeve.
