Full bound green cloth boards, with gilt lettering to front and spine, and gilt ruled lines to edges of front board. General wear to edges, corners, and head and heel of spine. SOme browning to pages, and stains to front and rear endpapers. Binding is solid. From 1908 review in the New York Times: "[This] collection of papers and lectures by Oliver Elton, Professor of English Literature in the university of Liverpool, is a wholly delightful book, scholarly, acute, and invariably interesting." Includes pieces on Giordano Bruno's visit to England; Colour and Imagery in Spenser; Recent Shakespeare Criticism; the Meaning of Literary History; Mr Swinburne's Poems; Tennyson; the Novels of Mr Henry James; Living Irish Literature; and more. From the collection of Carleton Jones, Baltimore journalist and historian, and regular columnist for the Baltimore Sun Magazine.
