About This Item
University of Papua New Guinea Press. 2016. Trade paperback. Fine.. 153 p. . In this thoughtful, yet engrossing account, the author recounts his story, while behind the bars, for a military court martial. The Book is about an incident that took place at the Papua New Guinea Defence Force's Northern Command Infantry Unit, based on the northern coastline of the eastern half of the Island of New Guinea. He and his comrades were imprisoned for the involvement in a petition presented to the Military High Command and the Government, on behalf of the grieving soldiers and the families at the Moem Military camp, highlighting administrative and national issues faced by Papua New Guineans. The author was asked to read the petition in front of the National Television-EMTV. A twist of fate branded him as one of the prim movers behind the whole Moem saga. His wife abandoned him with his daughter Shaminah, to whom this book was dedicated, when he was incarcerated in 2002. This is the author's side of the story about the Military Court Marital that took place. Holonga relives the hopelessness and the horrors he encounters, and the bonds and disputes he has with his prison mates.
