About This Item

Stockholm, Sweden: Journal Stockholm, 2000. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/As New Dust Jacket.. Stockholm, Sweden: Journal Stockholm, 2000. Hardcover. As New/As New. First Edition/First Printing. 120 pages. Landmark photographic account on subject. One of the most important - and most beautiful - photography books of our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Jens Olof Lasthein and Patric Leo: Regular-sized volume format. Black hard boards with white titles embossed on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Jens Olof Lasthein. Essay by Jesper Lindau. Printed on pristine-white, thick uncoated stock paper in Stockholm, Sweden to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is exemplary in every respect. In pictorial DJ with white titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents Jens Olof Lasthein's "Moments In Between: Pictures From Former Yugoslavia". One of the most unusual and most moving photographic records of the aftermath of war, that is to say, the real horrors of war. There is a whole shelf of photojournalism on the collapse of the former Yugoslavia (James Nachtwey's and Gilles Peress' searing images, among others, come readily to mind). What is remarkable about Jens Olof Lasthein's work is his focus on the landscape of war rather than the battle scenes themselves. "Deals with the poetry rather than the hyperbole of war. He is concerned with daily life in the shadow of a war: Between shellings, after ethnic cleansing, or before a shot is fired" (Martin Parr and Gerry Badger). The two go so far as to compare Lasthein's achievement with that of George N. Barnard's ground-breaking coverage of Sherman's March during the American Civil War: "Whereas Barnard could only deal with the physical topography of war, Lasthein can also give us war's psychological face". An absolute "must-have" title for Jens Olof Lasthein collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in metallic-silver pen-marker on the title page by Jens Olof Lasthein. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great photography book. This is one of few such signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is the single most beautiful signed copy we have ever seen. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. 55 color plates. Jens Olof Lasthein's "Moments In Between: Pictures From Former Yugoslavia" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the most brilliant photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER JENS OLOF LASTHEIN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 9197362964.
