1921 ARCTIC 1ed Shackleton South Polar Expedition Antarctica Voyages Shipwreck
Ernest Shackleton was one of the most prolific figures in the discovery of Antarctica. He took numerous voyages to the Antarctic, most famously his first in 1907, the Nimrod Expedition. After publishing his first book, 'Heart of the Antarctic', Shackleton published 'My South Polar Expedition' detailing his 1914 voyage, the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. This voyage ended in disaster. The ship 'Endurance' would become trapped in ice and an 'abandon ship' was declared after months in the ice – a failed exploration event.
This undated first French edition of Shackleton's 'My South Polar Expedition' was published in Tours and contains impressive, full-page photograph illustrations throughout.
