Leather rubbed to spine and corners. 82pp including an appendix regarding a public meeting to protest against the continuation of gaming in Monte Carlo, appealing for an end to the ‘ruin and misery….dishonour and death’ . Illustrated with tissue guarded frontispiece, 2 further plates (one fold out plate of Monaco at front) and other figures in the text. Contents include an overview of Monaco, casinos, players, fair and foul play, the philosophy of the play, the suicides of Monaco etc. Written in an engaging style, the pleasures and problems of gambling remain the same today as then. Ex reference library with pictorial bookplate on front pastedown, bookplate on rear pastedown, stamp on first and one other page. Occasional marks, generally clean.
