London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, & Brown; Lackington, Hughes, Harding, Mavor, & Jones; and Joseph Harding, 1817-1830.. ONE OF 50 LARGE PAPER COPIES. 6 volumes bound in 8. Large folio. (47.5 x 32.5 cm). Contemporary full black morocco, sides ruled with elaborate gilt foliate borders, spines with raised bands and richly gilt in compartments, inner dentelles gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Half-titles, engraved additional pictorial titles, letterpress titles printed in red and black, list of subscribers in volume 1, 242 engraved proof plates (as often without the duplicate plate of the Benedictine nun at p.451 in vol.2), of which 51 double-page. Plates with some spotting or foxing and occasional water-staining (mostly marginal and in vol.1), some light browning, elsewhere occasional spotting, generally a most handsome set of this greatly expanded edition by John Paley, Sir Henry Ellis and the Rev. Bulkeley Bandinel, which draws on records from the Cottonian Collection and the Tower of London.
