A very good first edition copy of Sacheverell Sitwell's history of monasteries and nunneries through the Medieval period and the eighteenth century First edition with original publisher's binding and original dust wrapper of Sachervelle Sitwell's history of monks, nuns and monasteries from the Medieval period onwards. Sitwell was an English writer and poet. He produced many works on art, music and architecture and over 50 volumes of poetry. He was part of the Sitwell siblings, brother to Edith and Osbert. His interest in architecture shaped this study of monastic life, the main focus of the book being the buildings in which monks and nuns have lived and worshipped throughout history. Includes 151 monochrome illustrations and 8 colour plates. Gold engraved lettering to the spine. Includes original unclipped dust wrapper. Collated, complete. In publisher's original cloth binding with unclipped dust wrapper. Externally smart. Dust wrapper is slightly worn at the extremities, with a few tears. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Very Good
