About This Item

NY: Limited Editions Club. AS NEW book & slipcase. WITHOUT the L.E.C. flyers.. 1961. 1st ed thus. Hardcover. AS NEW book in AS NEW slipcase. Slipcase quite unusual. #517/1500. 4to, 121pp. Illustrations by T.M. Cleland, who SIGNS. . Book AS NEW because of its extremely unusual slipcase. The slipcase totally encloses the book, unlike all other LEC slipcases (as far as I know). Most LECs are in the standard slipcase that leaves the book's spine exposed. This slipcase is in two parts that slide together and totally enlose the book. One photo shows the book and the two successively larger slipcases, The book's gilt lettered spine is duplicated on a paper label and then put on the main slipcase. The slipcase itself is also AS NEW, highly unusual in that there's not even a trace of rubbing or soiling. .

Synopsis

The young Frenchman did very well what he had planned to do. His guess that the Duke would cheat proved good. As the unshod half-dozen figures that had been standing noiselessly in the entryway stole softly into the shadows of the chamber, he leaned across the table and smilingly plucked a card out of the big Englishman's sleeve.
