About This Item

London: Longmans, Green, and Co. , 1901. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. A smart illustrated Longmans' Colonial Library edition of this exciting novel from popular Victorian author H. Rider Haggard. Longmans' Colonial Library edition. Scarce edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, title vignette, and twenty-three plates. Collated complete. Narrated by Thomas Wingfield, an Englishman who has had brushes with the Spanish Inquisition, shipwrecks, and slavery. He unwillingly joins a Spanish expedition to New Spain, exploring the first interrations between the natives and European explorers. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot predominantly to the first and last few pages. Bookplate to the front endpaper. Very Good
