Two novels in a single Modern Library reprint volume by the noted English 19th century novelist and playwright, Wilkie Collins. "The Moonstone" has been described as ". . .the first full-length detective novel. It is still the best. . ." by Alexander Woollcott, who has provided a foreword to this edition. "The Woman in White" is a mystery story, narrated from the perspectives of several of its characters. Volume wrapped in jacket with image of the woman in white under a full moon. --- In Toledano spine G5 / blue cloth / gilt titling & ML torchbearer oval on red cover & spine blocks / red topstain / blank GA style endpapers / jacket style Gd, verso advertises 370 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1954 (though 1937 date appears in book). ML #G33.1. --- With dampstains to the edges of covers & topstain, else a tightly-bound, unmarked, sound copy.
