First American edition, octavo, pp. vi, 401 plus a pp. 32 ad catalogue at rear. Publisher's teal colored cloth with upper board and spine lettering gilt and an upper board soldier illustration in black, red, and white, with a nicely done touch of gilt on soldier's hat. Twelve full page illustrations (frontis is tissue-guarded) by Wal Paget. Several maps, one is full page. Dark blue endpapers. All page edges originally decorated in an olive green shade, somewhat faded over the last century. Board tips and spine ends with light bumping and shelf wear. Very Good withal.
