Octavo; publisher's maroon vertical-ribbed cloth, with decorations stamped in blind to front cover and titles stamped in gilt; top edge gilt; [8], 486pp, [2], 32pp ads dated Sept.1897. Light sunning to spine, with base of same slightly nudged; light foxing to text edges, preliminary and terminal leaves, with contemporary owner's name (in ink) on verso of front endpaper; top edge gilt slightly dulled; Very Good+ sound copy. First English edition of Following the Equator; there is a possibility that this edition was issued a few days prior to the American edition, but the record is unclear. BAL 3453.
