Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of an elderly Cosima Wagner (the subject's love interest) and a few additional plates of black and white photographs of Nietzsche himself, and significant people and places in his life. A literary biography providing a captivating narrative of the life of Friedrich Nietzsche. O'Brien's biography begins by telling the story of Nietzsche's difficult childhood and how it formed his adult personality. The author also focuses heavily on the love story between Nietzsche and Cosima Wagner, and its tragic ending. O'Brien aims to show how the philosopher's personal life shaped his work, and thus the course of Continental philosophy. A Very Good book with a few traces of wear and rubbing to the boards' edges and some foxing to the top textblock; jacket is near Very Good with general edge wear and a dampstain to the reverse of the spine panel and the front fold.
