The first colonial edition, in a lovely decorative binding, with a pictorial front board. 'Cassell's Colonial Library' adverts to the rear.  A historical fantasy novel by H. Rider Haggard, set in Ancient Egypt around the time after the expulsion of the Hyksos, roughly in around 1500-1200 BCE.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, one colour plate, and one monochrome plates, by A. C. Michael.Collated, complete.Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, and to the recto of the front free endpaper. Four pages of adverts to the rear. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing to the boards and spine. A small amount of loss to the pictorial onlay to the head of the front board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Small cracks to the head and tail of the rear joint, and to the front joint. Gilt to the spine is rubbed and faded. Some light marks to the boards and spine, a little heavier to the rear board. Hinges are starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, and to the recto of the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
