About This Item

New York: American Book Company, 1901. Edge and corner worn, scuffed and scratched, corners are bumped and rubbed, shelf worn, spine is split in a couple of places with some fraying in the head and tail as well, hinges are a little weak but not cracked, former owner's name and address are in ink on the ffep, overall a nice used and collectible first edition! Very very rare and hard-to-find! Gray cloth with green lettering and design on the front board. 180 historical pages nicely enhanced by black and white photographs and illustrations with many maps in color! There is a 12 page section in the rear of the book containing geographical text and maps of New York. Extremely scarce title! "The fundamental thought of the 'new geography,' briefly stated, is the unity of the earth and the joint action of the forces of nature upon it and upon one another, so that 'nothing stands alone.' This conception recognizes the controlling power of man's hand and mind, shows how his activities are based upon the products of the earth, explains the conditions that must exist for the profitable pursuit of the various industries, and gives reasons for the progress of civilization...." ---- from the Author's Preface. . First Edition. Gray Cloth. Fair/No Jacket. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Hardcover.
