A brief history of mosaic pavements in Britain is included, with a discussion on the possible sources of the designs employed, together with the materials and methods of construction. The author's painstaking research for this catalogue, the first of its kind, has involved the collection of photographs or illustrations of nearly all the mosaics in Britain to date, and the compilation of a comprehensive index of the individual motifs employed in the designs.
