(211 pp.): Prose, Poetry & Music with b&w tissue protected steel engravings and 5 tissue protected hand colored flower prints: passion flowers, daphne, geraniums, la reine, and gladiolus natalensis. First Edition, December 1855. "One of but a small number of religious periodicals devoted to practical vital points of domestic education and the culture and immortal welfare of the child; for the parent who realizes that the dearest interests of their offspring, temporal and eternal depend upon their discipline. Offering moral narratives on the discharge of their duties, the periodical presents wise instruction communicated with the knowledge that although every child is not to be subjected to exactly the same discipline, yet general truths and lessons may be imparted which will be of great service to a teachable father or mother." Rubbed edges of boards with partially rubbed boards, age-toned text block edges and endpapers, and very light foxing, mostly in margins and blank side of plates, while the hand-colored prints are brightly colored and in very good condition. Clean, tight and strong binding with no underlining, highlighting or marginalia. Black three-quarter leather with marbled paper-covered boards and gilt bands and lettering to spine..
