"The Knickerbocker Press, New York" printed at foot of c.p. and "1914" on c.p and t.p. Publishers green cloth w. title stamped in black onto spine, gilt crest stamped onto upper board, 8vo (9-1/4 inches tall), pp. xxvii, (xxviii - blank), 1-439, (440- blank), (4 - pub. ads *n.b. - same ads as 1st US edition), (2 - blanks), captioned tissue-guarded frontis, illustrated with B&W photo reproductions throughout, errata, indices, appendices and tables. All four maps and both diagrams (4 of the 6 being fold-outs w. 2 of the fold-out maps being colored) are fine. Bound in publisher's special gift binding with gilt crest stamped onto upper board and prize bookplate "Hertford Grammar School / A.E. Drewery" to front pastedown, else unmarked throughout. Volume with hairline cracks to both hinges, text block with scattered spotting and occasional browning, bottom corner of one leaf (p. 37/38) with a 3 inch closed tear and some creasing noted, with the three following leaves also having a faint sympathetic crease. Price intact dust jacket is toned with modest overall wear, sunning to spine panel and edges. DJ has title printed in black onto spine panel with publisher's ads for eleven titles and "Putnam, 24 Bedford St., London, W.C.2" printed on back panel. "The principal work on the Selkirk Range." Neate P07 ; "A classic of mountaineering history, thorough and beautifully written." Whale 1135 ; E&L 2716. Uncommon in a nice complete jacket.
