About This Item

This copy of Movie Weekly, Vol. V, No. 14, was published in New York by the Movie Weekly Publishing Corporation on May 9th, 1925. The magazine, which measures approximately 9 ½ inches wide by 12 ½ inches tall, contains 34 pages, including the soft covers, of text, illustrations and advertisements devoted to the movie industry. Some items of interest include:
• A full page photo of Buster Keaton
• Many photos of stars of the period
• Articles by Richard Barthelmess, Norma Talmadge, and others
• An enchanting story in "Mistress Marion...Marion Davies buys a home". What the story can't tell is what the future held for her. It seems that Marion Davies later appeared in several Broadway musicals and became a featured performer in the Ziegfeld Follies. While performing there, William Randolph Hearst saw her and made her his mistress. She was 19, Hearst was 53! She retired from the theater in 1937 to devote herself to the care of the ailing Hearst and remained his steadfast companion until his death in 1951. She was not at all like comparable character portrayed in the movie Citizen Kane"

The item is staple bound. The covers are semi-detached from the body of the magazine and have some chipping along its edges, The pages are tanned with occasional chipping on the edges. The overall condition of the magazine is good.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the Front Cover, the Title/Contents page, and three typical 2-page spreads of articles and illustrations.

About Pages For Sages

Pages For Sages has been in the business of buying and selling rare and used books, ephemera, and other unusual items for over forty years. We have long depended on book fairs, printed catalogs, auctions, and the like to support the business. Now, in our later years (ages 90 and 92) we are taking this step to display a catalog of inventory on the Biblio web site for your consideration. The number of our listings will grow as we continue the process of adding items from our inventory - please come back from time to time to find additional offerings.
