About This Item
The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:
Marian Babson: Babson had a writing career that ran from 1971 to 2012. She passed away in 2017. She wrote three short detective series, the longest being the seven edition Trixie and Evangeline series, but Babson also wrote 32 stand alone detective novels. Altogether Babson published 45 novels. This is the second novel in the Trixie and Evangeline series.
James Melville: Melville, a member of the RAF during WWII, went on to become a diplomat, spending much of his career in Japan. There he began to write about the country and its people, creating a crime novel series involving an inspector called Otani. This series had 13 volumes. Melville wrote four other novels as well as three cozy mysteries under the name Hampton Charles. This is the twelveth Otani Mystery.
Bernard Cornwell: Born in England, now living in the USA, Cornwell is a writer of historical novels, thrillers and mysteries. His best known is the Sharpe series of mysteries, with 22 novels. His Last Kingdom series encompasses 13 novels and he has five other shorter series as well. Altogether, Cornwell has published over 60 books. This is the third of four novels in Cornwell's Sailing Thrillers series.
