About This Item
New York: Boni and Liveright, 1923. Paperback. ix, 228p., hardbound first edition in dark blue cloth boards lettered in bronze. Somewhat edgeworn with small abrasions to extremities and joint-lines, pastedown bears an unobjectionable bookplate in colors, a generally sound copy clean within. Dedicated to Charles Spencer Chaplin, yes, the silent film actor, in whose studio part of Murdo was composed. "In wishing 'Murdo' godspeed," runs the dedication, "I cannot help thinking of you as one of the fraternity that serenades at empty windows". - The Romanian-born Jewish author grew up around Romany camps before immigrating to the US; his early work was published in The Masses.
