About This Item

Roma: La Libreria Dello Stato, 1947. Paperback. Good. Unmarked. Text in Italian. Previous owner's name on title page. Some edge wear. 18 illustrations. Map and plans. Measures 5x7.25 inches. The Ostiense Museum is housed on the ground floor of a building that existed since the fifteenth century and was known as "Casone del Sale," because it was linked to the exploitation by the papal government of the nearby salt flats. The building, with a neoclassical facade, was adapted by Pius IX in the sixties of the nineteenth century as a museum and hosts today the Department of ancient Ostia Antica.
