About This Item

Athens, Georgia:: Hill Street Press, 2002.. 1st Printing, so stated.. Hardbound . BINDING/CONDITION: black boards; a Very Good+ book, with a Very Good+ dust jacket; the jacket is price clipped.. oblong format: about 7.5 inches tall by 10.5 inches wide . Illustrated endpapers. Description: Features 141 black and white photo illustrations. Foreword by B B King who states, ''By documenting the faces and the deep, soulful eyes of the people who make the music I love, these photographs preserve a dimension of blues culture that could easily be lost forever.'' In the late 1980s, then-graduate student Timothy Duffy began documenting the roots music styles of largely forgotten Southern musicians in a series of field recordings. Recognizing that too many artists working in these traditions -- blues, R&B, hillbilly music, and other now increasingly popular forms -- had been either ignored or abused by mainstream record labels and music media and were living in poverty and artistic neglect as a result, Duffy established the Music Maker Relief Foundation to redeem past wrongs. In addition to the photographs this presents brief biographies, interviews, and lyrics. Also includes a 22-track CD.
