About This Item

This is an Advanced Review Copy (ARC) of "My African Garden" by Sheila MacDonald. 1928 1st edition, 1st printing (stated); The Century Co.; New York. Included with this copy is the publisher's original review sheet which states "Please Do Not Release Your Review Before This Date." The book contains four full-page photographic plates.

From the publisher's review sheet: "Here is a charming book for an evening's light reading - the annals of a gay and plucky settler's family in Rhodesia. Life in South Africa, they find, is no bed of roses - especially if the planting of a flower garden be one of the prime ends of living - for what with sandstorms, hailstorms, locusts, droughts, and government 'bughunters' the garden becomes a very precarious thing indeed. They do create a very lovely garden, however, and in the intervals when they are not on the jump to defend it from the elements they are occupied in dealing with incompetent black servants, restraining a pair of irrepressible eight-year-old twins, breaking in a new city-bred governess, keeping the cook from marrying every girl he sees, etc., etc."

Condition:
Clean front cover; small, light stain at the bottom-left corner of the back cover; the lettering on the spine has mostly faded. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Nice interior - the pages are clean and appear unread with no issues found. There is an old bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Overall the book is in Very Good+ condition.
